Table of Contents Change

Image
Since I have my new article, I needed to adjust my table of contents. In addition to adding the new article to the table of contents, I also added more fake articles, especially to the Lifestyle category since I only had two articles there. This was necessary as I noticed that most magazines fill 100-200 pages. I added my "Sneaker School" article as well as an article about one of my favorite fitness influencers' new women's only gym called The Girls Spot. This would also fit my young woman demographic, since a lot of her demographic is teenage girls and young adult women. I also added an article to my Nutrition section called "Chicken and Rice 8 Different Ways" since I love chicken and rice. I've seen so many cultures have different takes on chicken and rice that are all super delicious, so I think this is a fun imaginary article to have. I added an article called "Oyinda Okunowo’s Workout Split" to my Workouts & Fitness section. She is an...

Finishing Up Written Portion of Sneaker School

Image
I'm just about finished with my article about footwear. I added a section about when to replace running shoes. I included Strava's shoe mileage function, which I've never personally used but have heard about from teammates. This would've helped me in the past since I completely overused two of my pairs of sneakers, adding to my ankle injury. Cross country added a lot of mileage to my sneakers, and I should've taken better care to note how long I'd (over)used my sneakers. I also added a side note that padded running shoes are not to be used for weightlifting. I know from my time weightlifting that flat shoes are better for lifting since you need a flat base for support and stability. I love wearing Converse to the gym. They're super comfortable and flat, so I had to mention them.

Sneaker School Further Writing

Image
I finished writing about the other two types of pronation, leaving space for drawings underneath. I think that my explanations are thorough and concise. I want to add a few details about how often to replace sneakers and where to find the appropriate ones, as well as provide some examples of shoes for each type.

Sneaker School Writing

I've worked a little bit on my new article. So far, I've written the introduction, defining pronation and its importance when finding footwear as well as the importance of finding proper running shoes. I also finished my paragraph on neutral pronation. I think I'm going to draw images of the different types of pronation below each paragraph.

New Article

I decided to call my new article "Sneaker School." I researched pronation and its different types so that I have the right information. I used an article by Asics called "Understanding your foot type: The pronation guide." This article also has some very useful animation clips of the different types of pronation in action. An article by Healthline called "What's the Difference Between Supination and Pronation?" was also helpful. My coach always says that people think you can just decide to run one day and do it without any equipment, since there's no gear or ball like in hockey, football, etc. but that running shoes are actually extremely important. I have found this statement to be very true and want to mention it in my article.

New Article Thought Process

Since I have slightly reorganized my magazine, I have to update my content. If I want to have a two-page spread, I need to have a page in between my editor's note and the spread. I have decided that I want to write an article about proper running footwear, since this is a topic I know a lot about, having run cross country and track. I could write about the types of pronation (the three ways in which people's feet land upon impact with the ground when running). This could serve as a guide to runners on what shoes they should buy. I think this is a great article topic because I definitely could've used the information in my first year of running. When I run, I supinate, meaning that my feet land on the outside of my foot. This has caused a lot of ankle problems, which I believe were greatly added to by bad running shoes. After getting a new pair, I noticed that after rainy days when I had to switch to my old pair, my ankle pain resumed at a higher intensity. Therefore, I thin...

Organization

Since I will hopefully be doing a two-page spread for the "What's in My Gym Bag?" article, I will need to orient my magazine's order as such. Page 1: cover on the front, letter from the editor on the back. Page 2: new article on the front, beginning of two-page spread on the back. Page 3: second page of two-page spread on the front. I may print out the magazine and assemble it, then take pictures of the physical magazine to submit. This would help make the magazine look more professional as well as make it easier for me to do any drawings or graphic elements on the magazine.
