Magazine Inspirations

Despite all of the bad fitness magazines, I was able to find good examples. Women's Health seems to focus on feeling healthy and strong rather than looking thin and sexy. I checked out a copy of one of their magazines on an app called Libby, which lets you borrow digital library products for free.

I like the cover of this magazine much better. It uses more muted colors and has more positive messaging. It doesn't mention weight loss, and focuses more on mental health and strength training.

The article starts off with an editor's letter, including the editor's recent experience at a gym. I really like this personal note. It lets us know that the magazine is created by women for women, and adds a note of relatability instead of perfection.

The magazine is very pleasing and streamlined, avoiding the bright pinks that the other women's health magazines I saw opted for. The magazine also includes meal-prepping advice, which could be very helpful. I don't know much about meal prepping, but I can take inspiration from this article and include a meal prepping recipe in my magazine

I also appreciated the advertisements in this article. One specific ad had a track athlete to advertise pistachios. This ad is empowering and has a focus on strength. I'm not sure if this is a real track athlete, but I would definitely include real female athletes and role models in my ads.

I really like Sha'Carrie Richardson and her advertisements, so I would take inspiration from those.

I also want to take inspiration from some of my favorite gym influencers, like Oyinda Okunowo and Natalee Barnett, who advocate for self-confidence in the gym. They also share their personal journeys and don't claim to have all the answers. They post relatable content about not always feeling motivated or wanting to do certain exercises. Oyinda is a Gymshark ambassador and since I like her content, I checked out the Gymshark blog. I saw articles like this, which focus on muscle building:

I want to include pictures and messaging like this to show that strength and muscle mass building aren't just for men.
