Mood Board

Image
I've created a mood board for my gym/fitness blog. I want my magazine to be very clean and refined, which I tried to translate through the colors and font. I want my magazine to be feminine but not overly stereotyped, so I will be using shades of blue, brown, white, black, and red. I want the meals to be filling and realistic, and I've included pictures of foods I would likely eat at home. I've also included pictures of my favorite gym clothing brands and images I could find of realistic workouts.

Editor's Note/Letter

When I read the magazine issue from Women's Health, the editor's letter really stood out to me. I think it could be fun to introduce myself, as this would be the first issue of the magazine. I would add a picture of myself at the gym and write about my personal connections to the article topics I pick for the issue (see previous blog entry for article ideas). It would also be cute to add my signature, like they do in the Women's Health editor's letters. Here is an editor's note from an issue of Women's Health UK that I could use as inspiration:

Magazine Inspirations

Despite all of the bad fitness magazines, I was able to find good examples. Women's Health seems to focus on feeling healthy and strong rather than looking thin and sexy. I checked out a copy of one of their magazines on an app called Libby, which lets you borrow digital library products for free. I like the cover of this magazine much better. The article starts off with an editor's letter, including the editor's recent experience at a gym. I really like this personal note. It lets us know that the magazine is created by women for women, and adds a note of relatability instead of perfection. The magazine is very pleasing and streamlined, avoiding the bright pinks that the other women's health magazines I saw opted for. The magazine also includes meal-prepping advice, which could be very helpful. I don't know much abo...

Winter Break Planning and Final Topic Decision

Image
I originally wanted to do a film with a group, then on my own, but decided it would be too challenging to do by myself. Instead, I came up with the idea of doing a gym/wellness magazine. I've been going to the gym regularly for over two years and do two varsity sports (cross country and track), so there's no better topic for my magazine. I've seen a lot of progress and think it would be nice to share tips. I have come up with several article ideas: advice for beginners my favorite gym-wear brands balancing lifestyle and exercise healthy eating confidence benefits of exercise for mental health workout splits and exercises, including proper form and stretching      I would also like to gear my magazine towards a younger female audience, as fitness is a growing hobby for many teenagers and young adults. Weightlifting has become of growing interest for women and girls, as female fitness in the past has been generally confined to exercise such as Pilates, ...
